John P. Leone, M.D., Ph.D. is the Director of the Pancreatic Transplant Program. He is an experienced kidney/pancreas transplant surgeon joining LifeLink from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Originally from the Ft. Lauderdale area, Dr. Leone attended the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
His notable background includes numerous awards, professional committees, and appointments, including teaching awards at both University of Minnesota and University of Nebraska, and an appointment to Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Also, Dr. Leone is active in multiple professional societies including the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He has obtained research grants and has completed extensive research on a variety of topics, most often working with pancreas and islet transplantation and organ preservation. Dr. Leone has authored and coauthored a number of abstracts and articles, and is widely published in scholarly journals.
