Len Geiger, a lung recipient, proudly speed walks in marathons. |
Alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency did not defeat Len Geiger, and neither did a nearly life-ending biking accident only three months after his May, 2002 life-saving lung transplant.
Looking back, he realizes all of those hurdles simply made him stronger. Even when family and friends worried, Len's answer was always, "I'm going to be fine."
His optimism never wavered. Recognizing the gift he has received has made Len look at life as a constant challenge, and a blessing.
He spends a great deal of his time living to the fullest.
In a very unusual circumstance, Len met the entire family of the young girl who was his organ donor, and he proudly speed walks in marathons and road races with her father.
In fact, Len recently speed-walked his way to a gold medal in the 2004 Transplant Games, where he also competed in cycling and swimming.
He looks forward to the future, "now that there is one," he says, and to continuing his career in medical sales.
